So if anyone is really interested in helping RST but none of the following opportunities fit in the schedule due to work/school, let me know. Monday, November 9^th

-       Drivers/bus assistants needed for RSC appointments

o      When: appointment begins at 8:30 AM

o      Details: Take Congolese refugees, via car or bus, to appointment at the Refugee Screening Clinic. You may stay until they are finished or another volunteer can arrive and help them return back to their home.

ALSO…:

o      When: possibly between 10:30-12:30 PM

o      Details: Take the refugees, mentioned above, home. You may need to call the clinic ahead of time to see if they will be ready. Contact info will be provided. o      Details: We need a couple of volunteers (preferably drivers) to assist the newly arrived Cuban family of 7 obtain their Social Security at the SS office.

- Volunteers needed for Social Security mission

When: ANYTIME in the morning

Details: Take the new Iraqi family to the Social Security office. Apply for their Social Security cards, wait and socialize with them.
(Please arrive at the RST office first to speak with one of our case managers so he can give you the nitty gritty information on how to carry on this mission.)

- Volunteers needed for bus orientation

When: 11:30 AM

Details: Help teach elderly Iraqi couple how to use the bus to arrive at the RST office. Arrive at their apartment at the time given.

- Spanish interpreters needed

When: from 12:30-4:30 PM

Details: We need a volunteer Spanish interpreter for a general orientation we provide for all newly arriving refugees. The family is from Cuba.

Thursday, 10/15/09

Details: We need a volunteer to help assist one of our case managers with driving an Iraqi family of 5 to the Refugee Screening Clinic.

- Drivers/bus assistants needed for RSC appointments

When: before 8:00 AM

Details: Drive Iraqi family of 8, with another volunteer or staff member, to their 8:00 AM appointment at the Refugee Screening Clinic. 

ALSO…:

When: possibly between 12:00-1:00 PM

Details: Take the refugees, mentioned above, home, either driving or by bus. You may need to call the clinic ahead of time to see if they will be ready. Contact info will be provided. (PLEASE NOTE: Teaching them the route by bus may be ideal to help with self-sufficiency, since they will need to return to the clinic several times on their own.)

ALSO…:

When: 9:00 AM

Details: Drive 2 refugees from Somalia to 9:00 AM appointment at the Refugee Screening Clinic.

ALSO…:

Details: Help prepare a culturally appropriate meal for arriving Iraqi family. Family arrives at 3:25 PM.

- Drivers needed to assist with airport pick-up

 When: 3:25 PM

Details: Help assist one of the staff members pick up an Iraqi family from the airport.

Details: Volunteers (car needed) are needed for grocery/housing shopping for 10 Iraqi refugees arriving next week. Volunteer will be provided shopping lists are RST Office (7801 N Lamar Blvd., Suite F-20).

Time: Anytime (before 4:00)
